First Supply of CroFab Snakebite Antivenom Shipping This Week
Fougera will give priority to filling back orders from 2002
Melville, NY March 10, 2003 Fougera® announced today that the Food and Drug Administration has authorized the first 2003 shipment of their antivenom CroFabTM; (Crotalidae Polyvalent Immune Fab -- Ovine). Fougera plans to use this shipment to fulfill back orders of CroFab accrued during last years antivenom shortage. The average wholesale price of CroFabTM; is unchanged from January 2002.
This is a great relief for hospitals that dont have product on hand, said Dr. Sean Bush, Staff Emergency Physician & Envenomation Specialist, Loma Linda Medical University Center. Last year the snakebite season started early and stayed busy. Fortunately, this year hospitals can begin the snakebite season with antivenom stocked.
CroFabTM; is indicated for the management of patients with minimal or moderate North American crotalid envenomation. The term crotalid is used to describe the Crotalinae subfamily (formerly known as the Crotalidae family) of venomous snakes that includes rattlesnakes, copperheads and cottonmouths/water moccasins. In October 2002, Fougera assumed responsibility for the distribution of CroFabTM; from Savage Laboratories. Both companies are divisions of Altana Inc. CroFabTM; was developed and is manufactured by Protherics PLC. The shelf life of CroFabTM is 30 months. Complete prescribing information is available at www.fougera.com.
